Sisterhood Across the Desert

Sisterhood Across the Desert: a Girl Scout Troop in Arizona and a Girl Scout Troop in Afghanistan become Digital Pen Pals and explore the power of sharing dreams through social media.

Last year OdysseyFilm went to Afghanistan to film our premiere documentary in the series: Between Light and Darkness. There we met girls in an orphanage who wanted to have a Girl Scout Troop.

Now, we are creating the opportunity for a Girl Scout Troop in the United States to host a sister troop in Afghanistan and be Digital Pen Pals.

This is an opportunity to promote friendship, compassion and global understanding. It is also an opportunity to share with our Afghan sisters the vital benefits of Girl Scouts developing life skills, self-esteem, and leadership for young girls in a war-torn country.

Through PARSA, we have joined with 30 Afghan girls from the Marastoon Orphanage in Kabul who are anxious to participate in this Sisterhood Across the Desert project.

In partnership with the Arizona Cactus-Pine Council of Girl Scouts, we have invited Troop 2140 of Phoenix, to launch the project with us.
